Actress Keira Knightley is seen suffering a brutal assault in a new advertisement highlighting the issue of domestic violence.
The two minute TV and cinema ad, for the charity Women’s Aid, shows the star being beaten by her partner after she returns home from a film set.
It is directed by Joe Wright, who worked with Knightley on Atonement.

Polya – she says …
Polya – she says she did not agree to this (receiving violence as actress in a scene). But then you wonder if she is an actress in a scene, or a real woman in a real relationship. It finishes with us looking “in” on a domestic violence scene – is it an act or not? should we step forward and stop it? etc
So, she did not sign up for the violence as an actress in a scene. But nor did she sign up for violence when entering a relationship. Hope that makes sense – it’s deliberately blurred.

Man: How is he today, your leading man?
Woman: Oh, please..
Man: How did it feel? Did it feel real?
Woman: It’s my job.
*man throws towel*
After this, the woman starts saying how she didn’t “agree” to that–it’s like they’re still filming something that the abuse is part of, but she didn’t agree to it in the script.

The irony here of …
The irony here of course is that most people are going to walk away and be rather smitten with the fact that a desirable woman Knightley is in the ad. Is this to sell her face, or to sell the idea of violence against women? Both? The message gets lots, not to mention that has anyone seen the way Hollywood typically depicts women? THAT’s a big part of the problem if you ask me. Hollywood is full of shit, and people get sucked into vacuous illusions of self-deceit and ignorance. Otherwise, peace.
